After graduating with a political economy degree from Williams College, Erin worked at Goldman Sachs as an investment banking analyst. In 1999, CNN hired Erin Burnett as a writer and guest booker for the network’s “Moneyline” program, after sending anchor Willow Bay an impressive fan letter. She then left CNN to work as a vice president at CitiMedia/CitiGroup, where she was in charge of the company’s online financial news network.

In 2003, Erin Burnett left Citigroup and worked as a producer for Bloomberg Television. She then served as an anchor for the program called “Bloomberg on the Markets.” During this time, she also worked as a host on the network’s “In Focus” program.

On November 2005, Erin Burnett met NBC head Bob Wright when he visited Bloomberg for an interview with Charlie Rose. Impressed by how Erin knew her craft, Wright recommended her to CNBC head Mark Hoffman, who was then looking for new talent to attract younger viewers. By December 2005, Erin Burnett signed with CNBC and made her debut as a co-host of Mark Haines on “Squawk on the Street,” a show that provides minute-by-minute Wall Street updates. She soon became an anchor for the CNBC show “Street Signs,” wherein she reports top stories of the day about acquisition, mergers, trends and other business news.

Ratings of both “Squawk on the Street” and “Street Signs” have improved up to 60% higher since Erin Burnett took over. She has interviewed some of the world’s leading economists, entrepreneurs and executives. Burnett has been named as the hottest financial news anchor in an online poll conducted by Wall Street blog Dealbreaker.com. In 2006, she received a ‘Deadline Club Award for Business Reporting’ as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Aside from her regular shows, Erin Burnett is also a regular guest on “Today,” “Meet the Press,” “Morning Joe,” “Nightly News with Brian Williams,” and other NBC programs. She received praises for her report on Dow Jones Industrial Average and the strength of U.S. economy on her July 17, 2007 appearance on “The Today Show.” Burnett has also anchored CNBC’s first live business programs from the Middle East and India.

In 2008, Erin Burnett made several guest appearances on the season 7 of “The Apprentice,” where she served as an advisor to business mogul Donald Trump.
